The European Railway Award honours outstanding achievement in the development of sustainable rail transport. The event recognises bright ideas, ingenious innovation and bold policy initiatives greatly contributing to enhance, grow and strengthen the rail mode today and for the future.

Women in rail edition puts spotlight on representation

One of the most important challenges faced by the rail sector is certainly an area that will shape the image of transport for the next decades – people. Therefore, for 2023, we have decided to award a ‘Women in Rail Trailblazer’. Women and girls represent more than 50% of the passenger rail ridership but they only compose approximately 20% of our workforce. We believe that by increasing the attractiveness of the sector to women, we can have a more mixed workforce for a proven increase in problem-solving competence and innovative strength. Now is definitely the time to recognise and encourage trailblazing efforts that are changing the employment landscape in rail professions for good.

An external jury composed of rail sector CEOs, high-level decision makers from European and international institutions, former winners and selected journalists will vote on the shortlisted Women in Rail Trailblazers to determine the laureate.
